About my blog
After retiring from my work in healthcare, photography became a hobby, conveniently combining my creative energy with a desire to explore and be outdoors. To help me improve as a photographer I started sharing my images with others and learning from their feedback.
Over time my interest in photography became more than just taking pictures - although that remains my key motivation. I started to consolidate my experiences by making personal notes about my photographs, the locations and other associated thoughts that emerged on my photographic journey. Writing this blog became a natural development of that and has led to a collection of posts that highlight the images, ideas and reflections which have emerged as ‘virtual milestones’ on my journey to become a more accomplished photographer.
About my photography
I am interested in all aspects of photography but landscape photography is my primary interest. I live my life across two countries and travel to many different places as I go back and forth, but my photography is sort of the opposite. It isn’t about the number of locations I visit, it’s about depth. I prefer to immerse myself in a few places but get to know them well.
In the UK, woodlands are my particular passion. Searching for ‘intimate landscapes’, as the photographer Eliot Porter defined them.
In Spain, I tend to be attracted more to seascapes which lean towards wider views extending to the horizon although I’m still keen to include details - an interesting rock formation, the colours of a sunset, unusual cloud formations or the patterns and shapes created by the movement of the sea.
